Large SUV / MPV (7–8 seats) — e.g. Mitsubishi Delica, Toyota Alphard

Small Kei / Compact (4–5 seats) — e.g. Honda N-BOX, Toyota Yaris

A note on driving in Japan: Foreign visitors must hold a valid International Driving Permit (IDP) issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention, carried alongside their home country licence and passport. IDPs are not issued in Japan — apply through your national motoring authority before you travel. Travellers from Belgium, France, Germany, Monaco, Switzerland, and Taiwan may use a JAF-certified Japanese translation of their licence instead.
